Internal Linking Strategies That Help Both Users and Search Engines

Internal Linking Strategies That Help Both Users and Search Engines

The Quiet Half of SEO

External links get most of the attention in SEO conversations. Internal links - the ones connecting a site's own pages to each other - do quieter work: they pass relevance signals between related pages, and they're how both visitors and search engines actually discover what else is on the site.

A page with no internal links pointing to it might as well not exist for a search engine crawling the site the way a visitor would - by following links, not by guessing at a sitemap.

Anchor Text Does More Work Than It Looks Like

"Click here" tells a search engine nothing about the page it points to. Anchor text that actually describes the destination - the service name, the topic, the article title - gives both a visitor and a crawler a reason to follow it and a clue about what's on the other side.

The strongest internal links happen inside actual body copy, where a mention of a related topic naturally becomes a link - not bolted on as a separate "related links" list nobody reads.

Structure That Keeps Everything Connected

A few structural habits keep a growing site connected instead of scattered: related services cross-linked from each other, case studies linked from the service pages they demonstrate, blog posts linking back to the service they're relevant to. Every important page should be reachable within two or three clicks from the homepage - anything buried deeper tends to get crawled less often and found less often too.

Orphan pages - ones with no internal links pointing to them at all - are worth checking for occasionally. They're usually not intentional, just pages that got created and never linked from anywhere once the moment passed.

Built Into the Structure, Not Added Later

This is exactly the pattern behind related services, related case studies, and related articles on every page of this site - cross-links that exist by design, not as an afterthought. It's part of the technical SEO built into every Website Package project.
